Shag Wool Rug Cleaning in Camas, WA

A thick ocean-blue wool shag rug from a Camas home near Prune Hill, packed with years of grit and pet dander, was dust-extracted, immersion washed and returned to its spot.

The Situation

This plush, ocean-blue shag rug lived in a busy Camas home near Prune Hill. A family with a dog had walked on it for years, and the 1.5-inch pile had quietly collected dry grit, dander and everyday soil down near the backing. A vacuum only reaches the top of a pile that deep, so the homeowners called us to pick it up for a full wash.

What We Found

A rug this dense hides what is inside it. The close-up photo below shows the grit and packed dirt sitting deep in the fibers before we started. The rug was a plush shag, so we chose a mild, wool-safe shampoo and a pH-balanced bath.

What We Did

  1. 1

    Pickup and inspection

We picked the rug up from the Camas home, inspected the pile and chose a wool-safe approach for this plush shag.

  2. 2

    Dry dust extraction

Vibrational dusting released the dry soil and grit bound deep in the weave without damaging the fibers.

  3. 3

    Full immersion wash

The rug was submerged in a pH-balanced bath with a mild, wool-safe shampoo to dissolve oils and dander.

  4. 4

    Centrifugal rinse

A centrifugal rinse flushed out the suspended soil from the dense pile.

  5. 5

    Controlled drying and delivery

The rug dried in our humidity-controlled chamber, was groomed, and was delivered back to its spot in the home.

The Result

After dry dust extraction, a full immersion wash, a centrifugal rinse and monitored drying, the colors came back, with the navy borders and teal pattern showing clearly, and the pile felt softer. We delivered the rug and set it back in its original spot beside the living room table.

Care Tips for This Kind of Rug

  • Vacuum shag rugs slowly with the beater bar off or with a suction-only tool.
  • Move the rug and check under it now and then. Deep pile hides small objects and soil.
  • Plan a professional wash about every 2 years, or every 12 to 18 months with pets or young children.

Questions About This Project

Can you wash a thick shag rug?

Yes. Deep-pile shag traps dry soil and dander near the backing, so we remove dry soil first, wash by full immersion with a wool-safe cleanser, and dry the rug in a monitored room.

How much does shag rug cleaning cost?

Rug cleaning is priced by square foot and fiber: $3.00 to $3.50 for synthetic, $4.00 to $4.50 for wool and $5.00 to $5.50 for silk and antique rugs. Your final price is confirmed after inspection, and pickup and delivery are free within 35 miles.

Is vacuuming enough for a deep shag rug?

A vacuum removes loose surface soil, but deep pile holds dry soil and dander down near the backing. A professional wash reaches what a vacuum cannot.

Do you pick up rugs in Camas?

Yes. Pickup and delivery are free in Camas (ZIP code 98607), which is inside our 35-mile free zone.
