Modern 9×12 Wool Rug Cleaning in Lake Oswego, OR: Taking the Oregon Out of the Pile

A light ivory 9×12 wool rug with a charcoal diamond pattern, dulled by years of foot traffic and grit, was dry-dusted, gently washed and dried flat, and went back to its Lake Oswego living room.

The Result in Four Lines

The rug
Modern 9×12 wool rug, Moroccan-style, ivory with a charcoal diamond lattice, from a Lake Oswego, OR home.
The problem
Foot-traffic paths, embedded grit and yellowed soil had dimmed the charcoal diamond pattern.
What we did
Dry dust extraction, a gentle pH-balanced immersion wash and controlled flat drying at our Vancouver, WA plant.
The result
The gray traffic lanes lifted, the diamond pattern showed clear edges again, and the ivory tone was brighter. Walkways stayed slightly flattened.

Before & After

The same modern wool rug before the wash and after it was cleaned and dried.

BeforeBefore: soiled modern ivory wool rug with a charcoal diamond pattern, dull traffic paths and embedded grit, before cleaning in Lake Oswego
Before: Foot-traffic paths and embedded soil dimmed the charcoal diamond pattern.
AfterAfter: the same ivory wool rug with a clean pile and a clear charcoal diamond pattern after immersion washing
After: The same rug after dry dusting, washing and drying.

What to notice

  • Look at the diamond lattice. The charcoal pattern has clearer edges after washing.
  • Compare the ivory field in the walkways, where the gray traffic lanes lifted.
  • The pile still shows light flattening where people walk, which is normal wear.

The Situation

This modern, Moroccan-style wool rug is a soft ivory field covered in small charcoal diamonds, the kind of quiet pattern that looks calm until it starts to show everything. In a Lake Oswego home with grandchildren, years of foot traffic and tracked-in grit had worn gray paths from the door and across the room. A vacuum had only been moving the surface soil around, so the family had us pick the rug up for a full wash.

What We Found

Light-colored wool shows soil more than any other rug, and the soil here was the kind that hides in the pile: embedded grit, pollen and a yellowed film of everyday soil. The diamonds were still there, just dim.

How We Cleaned This Wool Rug

  1. 1

    Careful pickup

We picked the rug up from the home and rolled it for transport. Porch handoff is allowed, and we move movable furniture off the rug.

  2. 2

    Dry dust extraction

Vibrational dusting released the embedded grit and pollen from deep in the dense wool backing before any liquid was applied.

  3. 3

    Gentle wool wash

A pH-balanced immersion wash lifted the gray from foot traffic and organic spills, without harsh chemicals or high heat.

  4. 4

    Controlled flat drying

The rug dried horizontally in a temperature-controlled room, which helps prevent shrinkage and edge curling and protects the soft texture of the wool.

  5. 5

    Delivery back home

The finished rug was delivered back to the home and put in its place.

The Result

When we brought the rug back, the gray weather had lifted. The pile no longer looked tired, the pattern had clean edges again, and the rug smelled like wool and fresh air. We did not make it new. The walkways stayed a little flattened where people walk, which is normal wear, but it was clearly itself again. It went back into the living room, ready for the next family gathering.

Care Tips for This Kind of Rug

  • Vacuum wool rugs regularly with suction only, and keep light-colored rugs well maintained in walkways.
  • Rotate the rug every few months so traffic wear and sunlight are even.
  • Plan a professional wash about every 2 years, or every 12 to 18 months with grandchildren, pets or a busy entry.

Questions About This Project

Can you clean a light ivory wool rug?

Yes. Light wool shows soil the most, so we remove the dry grit first, wash by full immersion with a gentle pH-balanced cleanser, and dry the rug flat in a temperature-controlled room.

How much does it cost to clean a 9×12 wool rug?

A 9×12 rug is 108 square feet. Wool rugs are $4.00 to $4.50 per square foot, so about $432 to $486. Your final price is confirmed after inspection, and pickup and delivery are free within 35 miles.

Will a wool rug shrink when it is washed?

We dry wool rugs flat in a temperature-controlled room, which helps prevent shrinking and edge curling.

Do you pick up rugs in Lake Oswego?

Yes. Pickup and delivery are free in Lake Oswego (ZIP codes 97034 and 97035), which is inside our 35-mile free zone.
