Dry soil extraction, a controlled immersion wash, specialized grooming and pile lifting, and a final inspection and finishing.
The result
The pile stands up more evenly, the compressed tracks lifted, and the cream and beige arcs stand out against the gray. Compare the photos below.

The Situation

A La Center homeowner called us about a modern 8×10 wool rug with a soft gray pile and bold, overlapping cream and beige arcs. The rug had become heavily matted and soiled from everyday use. Over time the fibers had compressed into dense tracks, and traffic soil had settled deep into the pile, muting the pattern and making the surface look worn and uneven.

What We Found

We picked the rug up at no charge and evaluated it at our plant. Heavy matting is common on modern wool rugs in high-traffic areas: the fibers pack down and trap dirt, which makes ordinary vacuuming less effective. The rug had two problems to solve, the soil and the matting.

How We Cleaned This Wool Rug

  1. 1

    Free pickup and evaluation

We picked the rug up at no charge and evaluated it at our plant.

  2. 2

    Dry soil extraction

Thorough dry soil extraction removed the grit and fine dirt that had worked into the pile.

  3. 3

    Controlled immersion wash

A controlled immersion wash flushed out the embedded soil without damaging the wool.

  4. 4

    Grooming and pile lifting

Specialized grooming and pile lifting released the matted fibers and restored loft and texture.

  5. 5

    Final inspection and finishing

A final inspection and finishing made sure the arcs and background sat evenly again, then we delivered the rug free of charge.

The Result

Once the rug was fully dry, the compressed tracks had lifted, the pile stood up more evenly, and the cream and beige arcs stood out cleanly against the refreshed gray field. We delivered it back to the La Center home free of charge, ready for regular use. Results depend on a rug’s age, fiber and wear, which is why we inspect first.

Care Tips for This Kind of Rug

  • Vacuum modern wool slowly with suction only or a gentle brush, and avoid beater bars.
  • Rotate the rug every few months and move furniture a little so the pile does not pack into tracks.
  • Plan a professional wash about every 2 years, or every 12 to 18 months in a busy household.

Questions About This Project

Can a matted wool rug be revived?

Often, yes. Matting traps soil and makes vacuuming less effective, so we remove the dry soil first, wash by immersion, then groom and lift the pile. Results depend on how compressed the fibers are and the rug’s age.

How much does it cost to clean an 8×10 wool rug?

An 8×10 rug is 80 square feet. Wool rugs are $4.00 to $4.50 per square foot, so about $320 to $360. We confirm your price after inspection, and pickup and delivery are free within 35 miles.

Why does a modern wool rug mat so quickly?

In busy rooms the fibers pack down along walkways and trap dirt, which speeds up matting. Regular professional cleaning and rotating the rug help.

Do you pick up rugs in La Center?

Yes. Pickup and delivery are free in La Center (ZIP code 98629), which is inside our 35-mile free zone.
